A shared model for instructional leadership is an advantage because "ownership" for excellence is shared among the principal and teachers. The model empowers teachers to participate in decision making about key components of teaching and learning and, at the same time, acknowledges their expertise and professionalism in the field. Instructional leadership, as a topic or a task, is too expansive for any one person to undertake, even as their sole area of responsibility.
