Recruitment and Retention of Turnaround Leaders

How can states identify and support turnaround leaders? At the “Topical Meeting on Equitable Access to Excellent Teachers and Leaders,” hosted by the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders (GTL Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers on February 3 and 4, 2015, Catherine Barbour presented on turnaround leader competencies.  The session also included interactive opportunities for participants to share challenges and promising solutions for identifying, placing, and supporting turnaround leaders. This presentation shows how districts can improve their capacity to identify turnaround leaders, strategically place turnaround leaders in schools, and support effective leadership for the purpose of ensuring equitable access to excellent educators.
