Bridging the Opportunity Gap:  Growing and Keeping Effective Teachers in Rural School DistrictsHow can states and districts grow and keep effective teachers in rural school districts? At the “Topical Meeting on Equitable Access to Excellent Teachers and Leaders,” hosted by the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders (GTL Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers on February 3 and 4, 2015, Battelle for Kids’ Tracy Najera and Tony Bagshaw provided an overview of the research on recruiting and retaining teachers in rural districts and shared their experiences with the Ohio Teacher Incentive Fund. This session included opportunities for participants to share their challenges and promising solutions. The presentation addresses ways to improve teacher retention efforts and grow effective teachers for the purposes of ensuring equitable access to excellent educators for all students.
